“You’re a bit short on the readies this week, but really fancy a bottle of decent fizz to cheer you up. Don’t despair. Help is at hand. Aldi’s Crémant du Jura is a smasher and brilliant value for money. It’s creamy, it’s elegant, it’s fresh and scented, and tasted with my eyes shut I’d say this has to be Champagne. But it’s not. Don’t let that worry you. Don’t be a label snob. This is better than a lot of Champagne at more than twice the price.”

Refreshing vintage sparkling dry wine made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on the slopes of the Jura mountains between France and Switzerland, with its second fermentation (the one that puts the bubbles in) carried out in the bottle, just like Champagne. It has a sophisticated subtlety with stimulating crisp citrus notes and a pleasing length.
