August's fresh inspiration

We aim to always offer our customers the freshest fruit and vegetables. We believe everyone should enjoy the benefits of fresh produce every day, that's why every month we showcase six of our favourites for you to make the most of it. As this month is the start of the Olympics, see what Rio-themed recipes will inspire you in the kitchen...

  • Garlic

Garlic releases its flavours when chopped and crushed. The finer you chop, the stronger it tastes. For easy crushing, use the flat side of a knife, sprinkling salt on the clove to stop it slipping.
  • Chillies

The smaller the chilli the hotter it is, but larger, mild chillies can be roasted and stuffed like peppers. Place under a hot grill, directly over a gas flame or on the BBQ, and roast until the skin blisters.
  • Blackberries

The slight acidity of blackberries means they're excellent in sauces for game such as venison, lamb or pheasant. In pies, crumbles, fools, jams and summer puddings, they're a natural pairing for apples.
  • Salad Potatoes

A fabulous summer staple, salad potatoes can be steamed, boiled or baked in the oven with a sprinkling of salt. For a sensational warm salad, toss in a dressing made with lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, mustard and mint.
