"An excellent example of a Gruner Veltliner, with aromas of apricot and cream leading to tight, refreshing citrus acidity. The palate is pleasingly textured though and really well-balanced. Lovely."
Kirchberg DAC Grüner Veltliner
A single vineyard Grüner Veltliner from the premium Kirchberg plot in Austria’s Weinviertal region.
Deliciously aromatic with hallmark notes of celery, green pepper and citrus and even hard stone fruit. The palate is surprisingly rich and complex with an incredible exotic depth of fruit and a mineral-driven texture.
Reaching For Quality
Sustainability and the specific needs of each grape variety stand above all working steps. However, Martin Hirtl is convinced that the state of the art is often not enough to reach brilliant qualities, “We rely on grape subdivision instead of the wide-spread Green Harvest, the thinning of grapes prevents the vine from developing evenly. Therefore, we leave all the grapes on the vine, but cut them in half. This guarantees a uniform development of the vines that enables them to be more resistant.”
Each winemaker in Poysdorf who thinks highly about himself should own a vineyard on the Kirchberg – an old adage says. This is probably because this exposed slop with its airy loess soil and fine gravel has always been a high-quality and a sought for location. The Grüner Veltliner there reaches splendid maturity and can thus develop into a fine, exotic, peppery wine with stimulating acidity. A veltliner that is cultivated and harvested by Martin’s Uncle, Franz.
