Ginger & Grapefruit Old Fashioned

A gorgeous zesty twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail. Kanpai!

Ingredients

For the Ginger Syrup:

  • 120g Fresh Ginger, thinly sliced
  • 200g Caster Sugar

For the Old Fashioned:

  • 50ml Whisky
  • 15ml   Ginger Syrup
  • 15ml   Grapefruit Juice
  • Ice

To garnish:

  • Sliced Grapefruit
  • Ginger  

  

Method

  1. Place the ginger and caster sugar into a saucepan along with 120ml water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 8-10 minutes until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  3. Leave to cool, then store in a jar. The leftover syrup can be used for drinks, desserts, yogurt pots etc.
  4. To make the old fashioned, pour the ginger syrup and grapefruit juice into a short glass and stir.
  5. Add ice then pour over the whisky.
  6. Garnish with the grapefruit and ginger and serve.
