Apple Scones

Recipe

Perfect as part of an afternoon tea or serve with some fresh coffee.

Ingredients

  • 250g Plain Flour
  • 60g Butter, chilled
  • 50g Caster Sugar
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 Eating Apples
  • 110ml Full Fat Milk
  • A little extra Milk and 15g Brown Sugar to glaze

Serve with

  • Clotted cream or Butter
  • Cherry Jam

Method

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 220°f/425°F/Gas Mark 6.
  2. Put the flour, caster sugar, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Grate the butter into the mix and rub in until crumbly.
  3. Peel the apples, grate into the mix and stir through.
  4. Add the milk and mix to a soft dough.
  5. Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured board, gently roll or pat each half into a 15cm circle. Place them on greased baking sheets.
  6. With a knife, score each round into 6 wedges. Brush the tops with the extra milk and sprinkle on the brown sugar. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes until browned and risen.
  7. Serve warm with butter or cream and some cherry jam.
