Ingredients

  • 2 x 413g Specially Selected Chocolate Cakes

For the green vanilla buttercream:

  • 150g Butter
  • 300g Icing Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tbsp Green Food Colouring

For the green icing:

  • 75g Icing Sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp Water
  • 4 drops Green Food Colouring

Equipment:

  • Piping bags and piping nozzles

Method

  1. Remove the cakes from their packaging and take off the chocolate decorations, then carefully scrape off the buttercream and keep for use later.
  2. Level the cakes by slicing a thin layer of cake off the top to make them flat.
  3. Place one of the cakes on your serving plate and top with some of the reserved chocolate buttercream, then place the second cake on top.
  4. Gently mark a cross on the top of the cake then remove the bottom 2 rounded edges (between the score marks).
  5. Spread some of the chocolate buttercream on the removed rounded pieces, then place at the top of the cake to create a heart shape.
  6. Remove a small triangle at the top to enhance the heart shape, then spread any remaining chocolate buttercream over the cake as a crumb coat.
  7. Leave to set in the fridge while you make the green vanilla buttercream.
  8. Place the softened buttercream into a bowl or mixer and beat for a couple of minutes until light and fluffy.
  9. Gradually add the icing sugar until fully incorporated, then slowly add the milk and food colouring until you have a smooth buttercream.
  10. Use a pallet knife to create a smooth layer of buttercream over the cake.
  11. Place the remaining buttercream in a piping bag and use piping nozzles to create an ornately decorated cake.
