About the Shopping List app trial
  • As a limited line discount retailer, we understand that customers aren’t always sure what groceries we sell, and that actually, the bulk of the weekly shop can be done with us - great quality products and low prices, every day! To support awareness of our product lines, we have developed an app that allows grocery items to be added to a list, where the groceries that can be purchased in Aldi stores are highlighted.

The app has been built for trial only, live for a duration of around 3 months, so that we can provide you with an understanding of what groceries we sell in your local stores, and help you locate the items easily by ordering them on your list as per the route in store. The trial will also help us to understand our customer’s shopping habits better, and gather feedback from you to help make improvements. Your feedback during the trial will be vital to making future decisions on Shopping List functionality we may release.

  • Once you’ve downloaded the app, you will be able to:

    • Add items to your Shopping List
      • You can do this manually by entering the product name
      • Choose suggested items from our database
      • Update quantities of the items on your list
    • See whether items on your list are stocked by Aldi stores
      • Any item that has ALDI written on the list is available in Bristol stores
    • View the Offers section to see the Super 6 Fruit & Veg and Super 6 Meat & Fish for that fortnight
    • Check items off your list
      • As you walk around a store (whether it’s Aldi or not), check off your items so you can keep track of what you’ve bought
      • All checked off items will be automatically removed after a couple of hours
    • Share your list with friends / family
      • Anyone you share your list with (that has an eligible iPhone) can add and check off items too
  • As the Shopping List app is only at trial stage, you won’t be able to do the following:

    • Find out whether items on your list are available in a particular store
    • Reserve stock of items on your list to collect in store
    • Order items on your list to your home or another address
    • See the full range of products sold at Aldi e.g. Food Specialbuys
    • Use non iPhone devices
  • Within the Shopping List trial app, you will be able to see the following items;

    • Core range grocery items such as fruit and veg, nappies etc.

    You will not be able to see;

    • Fortnightly Food Specialbuys, weekly Specialbuys, plants and flowers

  • Try following the step-by-step guide for downloading the app in the FAQ above.

Make sure you are eligible to participate in the trial.

  • Now you’ve got the app downloaded to your iPhone, you can start to use it just as you would any other shopping list; add as many items as you like, as often as you like, and remember to check them off when you're in store! Try adding items manually if you don't see them suggested from our database, and if you'd usually share your shopping list with others, you can share this app with other iPhone users too.
  • We are monitoring all feedback left through the Feedback section of the Shopping List trial app, and we will do our best to fix as many technical issues as possible.

If there are technical issues that we fix, you will receive an email from TestFlight when the update is ready to go live. At this point, you will simply need to download a new version of the Shopping List trial app through the TestFlight app on your iPhone.

  • Any emails about updates will be letting you know that we’ve fixed some technical issues and a new version of the Shopping List trial app is available to download. Simply go back into the TestFlight app and re-download the Shopping List trial app from there.

About taking part in the trial
  • For the purpose of the trial, the Shopping List app has been populated with products that can be purchased in Bristol stores. If you live outside Bristol, you can still use the app, but may note some discrepancies in items sold in stores outside Bristol with those that appear in the app suggestions. This is due to regional variations.
  • Email responses to trial applications will be from: shoppinglist@aldi.co.uk

If you haven’t received an email from this address within 2 weeks of submitting your application, please check your junk folder and settings.

  • As the app is currently undergoing trial, there are certain criteria that participants must meet in order to take part. If you have not been successful in your application, it is likely that you do not meet sufficient criteria for the trial. Alternatively, as the trial is for a restricted number of users we may have reached our maximum allowance.
  • To be eligible for this trial, you will need to meet the below criteria:

    • Have access to an iPhone
    • Your iPhone should be running the latest version of iOS (Apple’s operating system)
    • Food shop mainly in Bristol
    • Allow location settings on your phone
  • Whilst the Shopping List app is being trialed, there will be limited support. If you have any feedback to leave, please do so from within the app. We will update this FAQ section regularly with pointers from the feedback.
  • Whilst applications remain open, simply complete the form linked from this page

We will send you an email within 2 weeks of your application to let you know if you have been selected to take part.

    • You are using an iPhone

    • You have received an invite from TestFlight and downloaded the TestFlight app

  • The only personal data we will actively collect from you is your first name, last name and email address. This is so that we can provide you with your welcome emails from ourselves and TestFlight.

The participation survey asks for additional information such as confirming what type of phone you are using - this is so that we can make sure the trial is a good fit for you, and so that we can determine which of our valued customers are taking part in the trial.

When you leave feedback through the app, some data from your device is automatically sent to us. We will only use this if you are having a technical issue and it helps us to solve that issue.

  • We ask for you to allow the Shopping List trial app to access your location so that we can better understand how our customers shop. Knowledge of what items customers add on their list and where they check them off could help us with availability of our products, and could lead to a review of products we stock.

  • The Shopping List trial app suggests products to you based on your input. These products are housed in a database, which needs Internet access to call the latest products - for example to know what Super 6 items are on sale at that time. Internet access also allows you to share your shopping list with others, and to synchronise the list in as close to real-time as possible.
