Training and Development

We know our biggest assets are our amazing colleagues. We’re committed to their individual development and progression through life and work. Here’s how we’re making sure every single person at Aldi has opportunities to learn, to grow and to feel like they belong.

It’s Good To Listen

Listen and Learn. It’s obvious really, but it’s really important not to forget to welcome our colleagues with open arms and ask them how you can improve.

It stands to reason that engaged colleagues are more productive so we work hard to create a culture of openness and transparency.

This is why all colleagues are invited to complete our Employee Engagement Survey. In our latest survey, a fantastic 78% of colleague across GB and IE took part, with an impressive 79% engagement score! We believe in creating a culture where employees feel valued, take pride in their voice and feel that their voices are heard. This is reflected in some of our top scoring engagement questions, with 91% of colleagues agreeing that they are clear on the results expected of them in their job and 87% of colleagues agreeing that employees are treated fairly, regardless of protected characteristics.

Colleague feedback

We listen, and proudly act on feedback! By listening to colleague’s feedback, we ensure we’re focusing on key areas like training and personal development, ensuring our colleagues know it’s good to talk.

People Power

We are investing in our People more than ever! We have a dedicated HR Team of over 100 colleagues who look after all aspects of the employee lifecycle from Recruitment, to Training, Wellbeing, Health & Safety and Diversity & Inclusion.

During 2025, we held 760 training courses, training over 7,000 colleagues. Colleagues have access to over 900 pieces of learning content via our learning system, Workday MyLearning, which is accessible on all devices. Colleague inductions, performance review process, and support with personal development and career progression, and much more are all available via Workday Learning.

In 2025 we saw 585 colleagues across our Store Operations and Warehouse departments be nominated onto our dedicated career progression programme and an amazing 286 colleagues were promoted following the completion of their programme. People are always at the heart of our business and we understand just how important they are!

Diversity & Inclusion Training

We’re committed to building a diverse and an inclusive workforce. That’s why, since 2022 all leaders receive diversity & inclusion training, to give them the tools needed to support their teams and have positive conversations on the topic of D&I.

Apprenticeship Programme

We’re passionate about supporting our local communities, increasing social mobility and promoting diversity and inclusion through our Apprenticeship Programme. We’ve got apprenticeship vacancies available across the UK in our stores and warehouses, to help people kick-start a career in the retail industry. Our existing colleagues also have access to a range of specialist programmes at Levels 2 to 7. We’ve donated over £5 million of our apprenticeship funds to a wide range of sectors as well as to our charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust. By gifting our funds we aim to increase access to life-changing education and skills training in our local communities.
